Door to Hell

Door to Hell, Turkmenistan

The Darvaza gas crater also known as the Door to Hell or Gates of Hell is a natural gas field collapsed into a cavern near Darvaza, Turkmenistan. The gas pit has a region of 5,350 m2. Its breadth is 69 m and its profundity is 30 m.

Exact records of how the hole lighted have not been found and a few realities are questioned. One of the more famous speculations is that Soviet geologists purposefully set it ablaze in 1971 to forestall the spread of methane gas and it is thought to have been burning continuously ever since.

As indicated by Turkmen geologist Anatoly Bushmakin, the site was recognized by Soviet engineers in 1971. It was initially thought to be a substantial oil field site. The architects set up a boring apparatus and activities to evaluate the amount of oil accessible at the site.

Before long the starter overview tracked down a flammable gas pocket, the ground underneath the boring apparatus and camp fell into a wide hole and the apparatus was covered without any setbacks.

Expecting hazardous arrivals of harmful gases from the sinkhole into close by towns the specialists considered it fitting to consume the gas off. It was assessed that the gas would wear out inside half a month, however it has rather kept on consuming for 50 years and is relied upon to continue consuming.
